A heartbroken husband has channelled his sorrow into a creative outlet, publishing his debut novel. Martin Wood from Clayton-le-Moors underwent a life-altering ordeal when his wife, Chloe, encountered severe complications during pregnancy.

Despite Chloe initially showing signs of recovery, she tragically died just seven months after giving birth to their daughter, Addison.

Now 56, Martin, was advised by a friend to seek help from East Lancashire Hospice. Recalling the intense emotional struggle, Martin said: "The day-to-day was grinding me down, and especially at night once I'd put my daughter to bed, because that's when you start overthinking." Hazel Booth, who heads the support and wellbeing therapies at the Hospice, offered Martin the warm, judgment-free environment necessary for him to process his emotions and find a fresh path forward. "I'm not someone who talks much," Martin said. "But every session with Hazel made me feel more at ease.
