A dad has denied murdering his baby son who was found in a river. Zakari William Bennett-Eko, aged 11 months, was found in the River Irwell in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester by firefighters on September 11 last year.
He died in hospital a short while later, Manchester Evening News reported. His dad, Zak Bennett-Eko, appeared at the temporary Nightingale court at Salford's Lowry Theatre this morning via video link.
The 23-year-old spoke only to confirm his identity and plead 'not guilty' to a charge of murder. His trial is due to start this afternoon.
It is expected to last up to two weeks and will begin with an opening statement from prosecutor Rob Hall, who will lay out the facts of the case.
