A dad thought to have been bitten by a false widow spider while gardening ended up in hospital with a horrific wound. Ian Hamer, 48, from Birkenhead, Wirral, suspected something was wrong when a small blister on his leg started to fill up with puss.

He was eventually rushed to A&E as his leg ballooned in size and he came down with a temperature, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Ian was admitted to Arrowe Park Hospital with cellulitis - an infection caused by bacteria getting into the deeper layers of your skin.

It came after the dad, a contract manager, decided to do a spot of gardening on Saturday after his family's holiday abroad was cancelled.
