Rangers survived an early scare and a red card to move five points behind Celtic on a dramatic afternoon against Dundee.Philippe Clement’s side went behind to an early Amadou Bakayoko goal before hitting back with strikes from Cyriel Dessers, a James Tavernier penalty and Abdallah Sima before Jose Cifuentes was shown a red card for a foul before the break.
Injuries to Tom Lawrence and Danilo forced Clement to shuffle his pack but one omission by choice was the decision to leave Connor Goldson on the bench - the heavy upcoming schedule cited as the reason - with John Souttar coming in.Tony Docherty was almost missing a key player, with Owen Beck missing through injury and Ricki Lamie coming back into the starting line-up.
Rangers flew at their visitors from the whistle and within 11 seconds Trevor Carson had made the first save of the game from Cifuentes.
At the other end, Jack Butland bettered it with a superb stop to deny Lyall Cameron, who had burst through to angle a low shot towards the bottom corner.
