A Crossmichael man has been pushing the boundaries on his walks. Ed Hex recently completed a walk along the borders of Berwickshire.

And it takes the number of counties he has walked around to 12, having previously covered 11 across the south of Scotland. Ed, 58, said: “It has taken 92 days and 1,621 miles to complete this total, an average of over 17 miles walked each day. “Most of this distance has been over rough open ground or through even rougher forests. “Due to age related wisdom I no longer carry a full camping kit with me. “It turns out that better planning means there is always some way back to a warm and comfortable bed.” Over the years Ed has completed the boundaries of Wigtownshire, Dumfriesshire, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Clackmannanshire, Kinross-shire, Buteshire, Peebleshire, Selkirkshire, Roxburghshire and now Berwickshire.

Ed added: “Originally when I started I tried to raise money for charity along the way. “However, if anyone would like to donate to my efforts I would ask them to consider giving their money to a local charity of their choice instead; local groups need help as much or more than any large national organisation I might choose to support.”
