A CO2 shortage means that shortages could be on the horizon sooner rather than later. Iceland managing director Richard Walker said a shortage of the vital gas, which is used for fizzy drinks and in the meat industry, is due to soaring energy prices.
The amount of CO2 the UK produces has halved prompting warnings of supermarket shortages. Mr Walker said Christmas food supplies could be impacted by a reduced supply of the gas – but stressed that the damage could be felt much sooner and could happen in the “coming days and weeks”.
