Craig Halkett admits he burst into tears when he was told his campaign was over.The Hearts defender won’t be back in action until next season after injuring his cruciate knee ligament on Christmas Eve.
Halkett had to be replaced early during a 2-2 draw at Dundee United after an innocuous coming together with Glenn Middleton as he shepherded the ball out for a goal kick.Scans revealed the extent of the damage, which came as a crushing blow to Halkett, who had already missed a good chunk of the season after a hamstring injury.
The 27-year-old went under the knife in the summer following Hearts’ Scottish Cup final defeat to Rangers, which meant he was playing catch up over pre-season.
Since then, it’s been one injury after another which has forced him to write off the remainder of this term and focus on getting back fit in time for another fresh start in August.“This season has been a nightmare for me,” he said. “I got an ankle operation after the Scottish Cup final last year and that put me behind the rest of the boys in pre-season.
