A young driver who left his 16-year-old passenger with "serious, life-changing injuries" after speeding and crashing into a parked vehicle before fleeing the scene, has been jailed.

Zainul Abideen, 20, was driving a Toyota Avensis he did not own nearly 40 miles per hour over the speed limit last November, when he lost control and collided with a parked car on Parkhills Road in Bury.

In a written statement, the 16-year-old victim's sister told the court how "unbearable" it was for the family to see the boy who had a "funny, dominant" personality suffering in hospital, unable to eat or drink after he was left with a "severe brain injury".

Abideen, of Price Road, Bury, appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court earlier this week after pleading guilty to two previous counts of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, one count of driving without licence, and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
