A courageous woman was pictured bravely standing up to EDL thugs by holding up a powerful sign during riots in Southport.A major incident was declared on July 30, after hundreds of rioters took to the seaside town streets, lobbing bricks and flares outside a mosque while more than 50 cops trying to control the crowds.In a clip that has gone viral on social media, one woman stood in front of the thugs holding up a sign with a message of peace with a sign that read: "One race - human, hope not hate, racism not welcome here."Despite bricks and other items being lobbed at her as well as aggressive jeers from the crowd the lady bravely stood her ground to get the message across, reports the Mirror.

Her brave actions amidst a night of disgraceful behaviour have been widely praised by many.Dozens of cops were hurt by flying bricks and had to be taken away from the chaos to get treatment, and one male officer appeared to have a head injury as he was driven for hospital treatment.

A police riot van, mosque fencing, a pink car and a minimarket were looted during the violence, which has been met with widespread condemnation from locals.Merseyside Police believe the protesters included supporters of the far-right English Defence League, who are believed to have travelled to Southport from outside the area.

Trouble erupted around 8pm after social media reports a protest was being held outside a local mosque.Gangs of masked men started to appear on the streets before throwing bricks at a local mosque smashing their windows as people hid inside.
