A couple who concocted a fraudulent plan to swindle more than £300,000 from the benefits system by falsely claiming they had 18 children are expected to repay just £2.
Tracy and Robert Ashbridge were involved in a scam involving child benefits claims. Tracy, a HMRC employee, exploited her position to claim three of her own children were disabled and made up tax credit claims for another 15 fictitious children between 2015 and 2019.
She was jailed last September while her husband, Robert, who participated in one of the false claims, received a suspended sentence, the Express reports. Despite this, Tracy was ordered to repay just £1, as the investigation revealed she possessed no assets. Robert faced a similarly minimal repayment order.
