A couple have transformed the 'ugliest house on the street' and managed to double its value. Lizzy Williams, 37, and her husband, Phil 40, bought a rundown semi-detached property for a bargain price of £150,000 back in 2014, and have since been working to bring it back to life.

When the couple first bought the four-bed home in St Albans, Hertfordshire, they claim it was the 'worst' house on the road as it had not being lived in for four years.

They say it had holes in the ceiling, dead plants, and fungus growing in the downstairs loo. Over the last nine years, after learning DIY on YouTube, they have turned it into their dream home.

By renovating themselves, Lizzy and Phil estimate they have saved £200k in costs - as they learnt how to do plumbing, electrics, build a swimming pool and install a kitchen.
