Country Singer Charlie Daniels Dies at 83

Charlie Daniels has sadly passed away. The singer and Country Music Hall of Famer, has died at the age of 83, Variety reports.

The site reports that Charlie died on Monday, July 6th after a hemorrhagic stroke in Hermitage, Tenn. Charlie is best known for his song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, which is a story about a fiddling contest.

It climbed to No. 1 on the country chart and crossed over to No. 3 on the pop side in 1979, shifting 1 million copies. He also received a Grammy Award for best country vocal performance for the song, which was featured on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack. Charlie, who was a gifted musician with skills on fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mandolin, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
