Back in July, Coun Allen Brett said he did not want to put bills up as people had already been hit too hard by the pandemic - particularly ‘the working poor’.
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting service at the time he said: “My aspiration is to freeze council tax. And when I say ‘freeze council tax, I mean freeze council tax - so no increase next year.”But plans to hike council tax by 4.99% - or 4.77pc once Andy Burnham’s Mayoral precepts are factored in - are set to be signed off by cabinet next week.The proposals would see the general purposes.
