Plans to triple the rent at a council-owned bowling club and pass on astronomical charges to members have been branded a “slap in the face” to the organisation.Robertson Park Bowling Club’s rent will jump from £1,750 to £6,000 per year, Renfrewshire Council has said. The Renfrew club will also be tasked with covering all other costs including maintaining the two greens, the latter of which would cost £1,200 per green.Jim Coyle, secretary of the club, told the Express the costs involved simply aren’t affordable for members. He said: “Our lease was up in 2020 and we have been trying to negotiate with them ever since.“We received their terms and conditions last month and they are putting up the rent to £6,000 per year.“We also have to pay for all the electricity, water rates, and to look after all the greens and shrubbery.“The costs of this would be astronomical to us.“We would just about last a year if we had to accept this current proposal.
