A Coronation Street star who uses a wheelchair has condemned the "blatant" prejudice she has suffered after being verbally abused in the street.
Cherylee Houston, who plays Izzy Armstrong in the popular ITV soap, posted about the shocking incident online after someone shouted a slur at her from a passing car in Manchester.
Cherylee was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos, a rare connective tissue disorder, when she was 23. In her latest Twitter/X post, she opened up about the vile incident.
She wrote: "Just had some delightful ableism shouted at me out of a car window, 'Coronation Street Cabbage'. Have we gone back 20 years, they were young men. This isn’t for sympathy. This is for awareness of how prevalent disability hate is." She also spoke to Michelle Dignan about disability hate crimes and inclusion in general on BBC Radio Manchester.
