Just as Billy Mayhew thought he had the wedding of his dreams, his new husband, Paul Foreman surprised him with a rule-breaking church wedding of his dreams in Coronation Street.

As seen in the episode on Monday, 2 October - the pair tied the knot in the bistro in front of their family and friends, but Paul had another surprise up his sleeve and the pair hightailed it to the church to do it all over again. “It was a beautiful moment,” says Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy. “I've been in Corrie for the best part of a decade and I have stood at the front of that church watching people walk down the aisle towards me." “To suddenly be the person walking down that aisle, it was incredibly emotional, actually. The scenes are beautifully written.

In fact the whole 12 episodes of that block were, they felt really special to shoot. There was something very, very beautiful about them.” Despite the happy moment, there’s drama looming as Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) dropped a polaroid of the church wedding and it was discovered by the bishop.

After giving a heartfelt interview declaring his love for Paul, Billy is shockingly suspended by the church. “Billy is a sensible character, but he's also a human being,” explains Daniel. “ I think Billy feels that there is ultimately a responsibility to not just to defend his actions, but to explain them. “He feels it's wrong that same sex couples are not allowed a religious union because ultimately, it's about two people who are in love with each other.
