Brits should only go shopping for food "once a week" if possible, a Tory Cabinet minister has claimed. Grant Shapps made the suggestion as he urged people to stay at home as much as possible to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The Transport Secretary told BBC Breakfast: "People know the rules that have been set. Try and shop just once a week - just, you know, do the essentials not everything else." Mr Shapps' advice to shop only "once a week" does not exist either in official government guidance or in the law.
Government guidance says to go shopping for essentials "as infrequently as possible" but does not set a limit on the number of visits.
