Coronavirus R rate ‘drops to 1.1’ as Rule of Six could be 'slowing infections'

There are signs the Government's 'rule of six' is starting to slow the spread of coronavirus, according to a new study. The prevalence of infections in England is still much higher than it was at the end of August but the R number does appear to be improving, Imperial College has said.

The findings come after Prime Minister Boris Johnson pleaded with Britons to obey the rules imposed to tackle a rapidly accelerating second wave of the coronavirus.

More than 7,000 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in each of the last two days. The study by Imperial College London and Ipsos Mori showed one in around 200 people in England were infected with coronavirus.
