Coronation Street's Vicky Myers has spoken out about her battle with cancer during a difficult divorce. When she was diagnosed in the same year as her tough split from her husband, she had to pause her acting dreams. She struggled to pay the bills and even did ironing jobs to help.

She took a break from constant auditions for two years to work in an office while looking after her teenage daughter Meghan. But Vicky didn't give up and now, she not only has a permanent role on Corrie, but her character DS Lisa Swain is at the heart of the Roy Cropper arrest plot this week. It's been a long journey - DS Swain is the fourth role she's played on the ITV soap, but the only one to become a main cast member.

Speaking for the first time about overcoming her health struggles and difficult break-up, Vicky spoke exclusively to the Mirror about how she's enjoying every moment of her dream life. "I don't know if it's my previous medical history, but I am so proud to be here and just to be living each day to the full," says Vicky. "When my husband and I split up, I was quite down, bitter and vengeful, and when I was told I had [cancer], I remember thinking, 'If this is it for me, I've missed out on all this time with my daughter and I haven't really been the best person that I wanted to be.' The diagnosis re-centred me and made me focus on what is really important and what makes me happy.

Now, every time I go into work and see the Coronation Street sign, it's quite overwhelming."Vicky, 48, has been making occasional appearances as the tough DS Swain for the past three years, investigating the acid attack on Daisy Midgeley and Stephen Reid's reign of terror.
