Coronation Street's Peter Barlow, played by Chris Gascoyne, is set to leave the Cobbles after 23 years.The actor first appeared as Peter in 2000 during Corrie's 40th anniversary live episode, and has had a few stints on and off the show since then.
Chris left the role in 2003, returned in 2007 for a brief stint, and then came back full-time in 2008. He left again in 2014, but reprised the role for two episodes in 2015 for Deirdre Barlow's funeral, played by Anne Kirkbride.
In 2016, it was revealed that Peter would be returning to Weatherfield, with Chris remaining in the role ever since. However, this will change on Boxing Day (Tuesday, December 26), when Peter decides to leave Weatherfield, marking an exit for Chris.
This comes after the character struggled with guilt over his involvement in the death of serial killer Stephen Reid. Boxing Day brought a wave of emotions for Peter and Carla on the soap.They reflect on their rocky romance and realise that, despite their deep love for each other, they might be better off apart.
