Coronation Street actress Sally Ann Matthews has been flooded with support from fans and colleagues after the TV star, who plays Jenny Connor in the soap, shared some heartbreaking personal news.Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Sally, 53, announced the devastating passing of her uncle with a poignant photo and caption with her 107,000 followers.

Support and messages of condolence have since poured in for the actress after she shared how she'd had to say goodbye to her beloved uncle this week.The picture that she posted appeared to show a young Sally Ann with her late family member on the beach.The three people in the photograph had their backs to the camera as they looked out across the sea.

The soap star, known for playing Jenny in the ITV soap, captioned the sombre post: "Today we said goodbye to Uncle Derek. A packed crowd for a wonderful man. "He’d have hated the fuss but would’ve loved every single person there." The comment section was quickly flooded with messages of love and support for Sally Ann and her loved ones by her soap colleagues.

Corrie co-star Sally Carman-Duttine shared: "Sending you so much love, Sal," while Corrie legend Andy Whyment added: "Sending love Sal." Meanwhile former Corrie star Hayley Tamaddon replied: "Aww Sal sending the most love." Fans were also quick to share their love and support as one person wrote: "sending love to you sally." Another added: "Oh no I'm really sorry to hear about your uncle there Sal, I really do send you and your family lots of love and blessings there as well." Sally Ann first appeared in Corrie from 1986 to 1991, before joining the cast of Emmerdale in 2005 for less than a year.
