Coronation Street character Gail Platt, played by the legendary Helen Worth, is set to bid farewell to the cobbles with a storyline that promises to leave fans smiling.
After nearly 50 years on the show, it's been confirmed that Gail will not meet a grim fate when she exits.The soap's executive producer Iain MacLeod spilled the beans to the Daily Star's Hot TV column, saying: "Gail won't die.
It didn't feel like killing her off would be right. Gail's exit is a brilliant story. I thought, 'What do the viewers want to see?'." He added: "Gail has had a hard life.
She had a difficult childhood and she disastrous marriages. So, we though what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that what we're doing." Helen who is gearing up to film her final scenes, is reportedly thrilled with her character's send-off.
