Coronation Street actor Ian Bartholomew has opened up about his experience of playing Corrie villain Geoff Metcalfe, feeling the need to apologise for his character's behaviour.
Geoff subjected his wife Yasmeen Nazir, played by Shelley King, to months of abuse, psychologically controlling and manipulating her behind closed doors.
Apologising on Geoff's behalf, Ian admitted he reached out to Shelley after they acted out the troubling scenes. Speaking to The Sun, he confessed: "There were some scenes that I really didn't like and felt sullied afterwards. "After the magic trick went wrong he called her an 'oafish bitch'.
I really didn't enjoy that and I kept apologising to Shelley. I said: ‘I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's not me – it's the part.' "
