Facebook's parent company Meta has created a 'personal boundary' function in their virtual world called Horizon over a string of recent sexual harassment allegations.Horizon is a virtual reality game or, in Meta's words, a "social experience where you can explore, play and create in extraordinary ways."However, a real world problem has entered the virtual realm amid allegations of "verbal and sexual harassment."To combat this issue, Meta has introduced a default personal boundary function that instils a two-foot radius of virtual personal space, creating the equivalent of four virtual feet between avatars."A personal boundary prevents anyone from invading your avatar's personal space," Horizon vice president Vivek Sharma wrote in a blog post introducing the new function on Friday."If someone tries to enter your personal boundary, the system will halt their forward movement as they reach the boundary," Sharma added.Horizon was launched in December in North America and one woman said she was harassed within a minute of joining."Within 60 seconds of joining - I was verbally and sexually harassed," the user wrote in a blog of her experience."A horrible experience that happened so fast and before I could even think about putting the safety barrier in place.
