Contactless limit set to be increased to £100 under new payment rules this year

The contactless shopping limit could be increased to £100 under measures being debated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The card limit, which increased from £30 to £45 last April to reduce the use of cash at the height of the pandemic, is set to be revised again, the city regulator said.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said it intends to consult on a possible increase as infections continue to surge in England.

It said: "It's important that payments regulation keeps pace with consumer and merchant expectations. "Recognising changing behaviour in how people pay, as part of a wider consultation, we will shortly be seeking views on amending our rules to allow for a possible increase in the contactless limit to £100."
