Conservative manifesto pledges see the light but projects will remain at 'amber' for now

Among hundreds of South Ayrshire projects considered for investment were a handful of schemes that had formed the core of the Conservative’s manifesto in 2022.Ayr Town Centre was the central point for many of those pledges.A number of those pledges have been given the go ahead, including the resurfacing of Ayr Prom with red tarmac (£150k), Resurfacing Blackburn Car Park (£95k), Illumination of Auld and New Brig (£101k), replacing lighting at Loudon Hall (£10k), refurbish footbridge over slipway (£100k).Others that were approved but remain to be fully costed include, Burn Statue Square improvements, including Honest Men and Bonnie Lasses Walk of Fame, Town Hall Gardens transformation, Removal of Grain Exchange bus stop for event space, Ayr Promenade Boating Pond and multi-media signage.However, a number of the manifesto pledges remain under review, whether that is for additional information, to examine alternative sources of funding or where ongoing council work could be addressing the issue.These include ‘exploration’ of possible compulsory purchasing of the Station Hotel, the council buying up all private homes in Wallacetown and then refurbishing all properties in Wallacetown.Other items highlighted by the administration for Ayr West but requiring review include:These and other amber projects could form part of a further report on the programme set to be brought back to cabinet in September.
