Connor Barron transfer latest as Celtic face competition from Belgium for Aberdeen midfielder

KRC Genk have joined Celtic in eyeing Aberdeen ace Connor Barron. The Pittodrie youngster is attracting growing interest after impressing for the Reds.Barron was watched by Parkhead scouts last weekend during Scotland’s Under-21s clash with Belgium.Having produced an outstanding performance for Scot Gemmill’s side, Genk are also now monitoring the 19-year-old. Record Sport understands the Belgian outfit were also in attendance at the international clash on their own soil and took note of Barron’s impressive show.

The teenager signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Aberdeen at the beginning of this year and boss Jim Goodwin insists he’s a big part of his future plans.

The youngster was involved regularly in the new manager’s set-up after his appointment to succeed Stephen Glass after the player returned from a loan spell at Kelty Hearts.

Barron’s displays earned him a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award along with team-mate Calvin Ramsay and suitors are starting to gather with the midfielder’s stock rapidly rising.
