Jim Goodwin has warned it could be after the World Cup before Aberdeen star Connor Barron is fit and back up to speed. The young midfielder suffered medial ligament damage in a pre-season friendly at Buckie Thistle, and the Scotland under-21 cap has not played this season.

Goodwin admitted he is still a month away from being back out on the grass and then he will have to do a mini pre-season, but they won’t be rushing him back because they want to make sure their prize asset is right for the second half of the season.

The Aberdeen boss stated: “Connor will be back on the grass running in four week’s time I would imagine. He is going to have some kind of mini pre-season from that point onwards.

Connor will probably need a couple of weeks with the fitness guys. I would hope for a return to play from probably six weeks from now. “We are not going to rush it and it is one we have been quite cautious with.
