A senior SNP politician in the Scottish Parliament has been given a vote in the Labour leadership contest through the Unite trade union.
Paisley MSP George Adam one of over 100,000 members the trade union has signed up as Labour affiliates since the leadership election was called.
The blunder means that the SNP chief whip in the Scottish parliament can play a role in deciding who the Scottish Labour deputy leader is and who heads the UK Labour party next month.
Mr Adam, who is a lifelong trade unionist and Unite member, has not taken advantage of the vote although he has told Unite about the situation.
