Concerns with mental health support offered in South Lanarkshire’s schools were raised in a debate about suicide prevention.Larkhall councillor Jackie Burns was worried that the council thought that it was better than it actually is at helping pupils with their mental health.
Cllr Burns, whose children attend South Lanarkshire schools, said: “My concern, I don’t think that the level of support is as good as we think it is. “The issue for me is that it is not just a committee issue, it’s an education issue, it’s a finance issue etc.“This is a societal issue.
Someone has to take the lead on this.”The council’s social work committee was told that “suicide prevention is rooted in good mental health for all” before Cllr Burns made the comments
