The Essex side currently sit 21st in the table with eight games of their season remaining, four points above the drop zone. They travel to the North West to take on Bolton Wanderers on Good Friday.
But before that trip, the U's have made their second managerial change of the seasons after confirming that former West Ham United midfielder Mullins will be in charge of the club for the rest of the campaign.
