Cohens Chemist founder Anwer Patel dies aged 66 - tributes paid 'kind, compassionate' man who built an empire from Bolton

The 66-year-old is believed to have been unwell for some time and passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Anwer and his brother Yakub founded the business when they opened their first ever branch in 1979 and would go on to built it into a pharmaceutical empire.

The pair were born in Africa but moved to Bolton when they were children, establishing their first shop in Rochdale before taking over Cohens in Market Street, Little Lever.
