Arthouse steamer and distributor Mubi has added Chinese billionaire Zhang Xin to its Board Of Directors. Zhang is best known as the founder of the New York-based film production company and financier Closer Media.
As part of Zhang’s appointment, Closer Media has also invested in Mubi. The size of the investment wasn’t disclosed. Before establishing Closer Media, Zhang was the Co-Founder and CEO of SOHO China, a prolific office property company in Beijing and Shanghai.
She also serves as a Trustee of MoMA and is a member of the Harvard Global Advisory Council and Asia Business Council. “As an entrepreneur, investor, and producer, joining the MUBI Board is a special opportunity to be involved in this innovative business right at the forefront of the rapidly evolving film industry,” Zhang said in a statement. “I am excited about MUBI’s visionary approach to bringing high-quality content to global audiences, and I look forward to being a part of the company’s growth.” Founded in 2007 by Efe Cakarel, Mubi is headquartered in London.
The company has 14 offices across the world and 400 employees. The company recently distributed Coralie Fargeat’s latest The Substance in multiple territories including North America.
