When Clare Dunne picked up her IFTA award for Best Script for her heartwarming film, Herself, the shock was evident on her face.
Apart from a handful of classes in college, she had never taken a writing course. ‘I could never afford one,’ she laughs to EVOKE over Zoom ahead of the release of the film in Irish cinemas.
It’s been a long time coming, but the 33-year-old wanted it to debut in Ireland on the big screen. Herself, which tells the story of a single mother who finds herself homeless after fleeing an abusive marriage, certainly deserves a big screen premiere.
The Dublin native was in New York during pilot season trying to bag herself a role in a new TV series when the idea of Sandra’s story came to her head.
