Claire Sweeney is making her first appearance on Coronation Street. The 52 year old Brookside actor is hitting the cobbles as Tyrone Dobbs' long-lost mum Cassandra.
In the first-look images of the new Coronation Street character, who has a heroin addiction, Claire looks completely different.
In the photograph, you can see the actress leaning against a brick wall with her hair tucked into a beige cap, a baggy hoody, and a gaunt expression on her face.
During a recent Coronation Street press conference, Claire said that she wanted to be unrecognisable. "I'm not vain," she said. "I'm an actress, the first day filming on the cobbles, one of the extras like you said to me 'Oh, we didn't we didn't recognise you' and a full 'brilliant!'.That's how I wanted to be, I want her to be so far removed from me." "The minute I get the clothes on, the leggings the converse and the cap, looking really rough, I kind of become that character," she continued. "And it'd be interesting to see if she does end up a little bit glam if she sorts itself out, I don't know that far yet." "I think it's absolutely brilliant as an actress, you just want to be quite removed from yourself," Claire added. "And she certainly is." The new storyline will see Cassie arrive in Weatherfield and cause havoc for Tyrone and his grandmother Evelyn.
