'Citizen Kane' No Longer Has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes After 80-Year-Old Negative Review is Added Decades Later

For decades, the 1941 movie Citizen Kane has held a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes…until March 2, 2021 when one negative review was added to the film’s profile on the famed site.

Now, the movie has a 99% rating after the eighty-year-old review was published alongside other stellar reviews of the film. The review was written by Mae Tinee of the Chicago Tribune back in 1941 and said, “It’s interesting.

It’s different. In fact, it’s bizarre enough to become a museum piece. But its sacrifice of simplicity to eccentricity robs it of distinction and general entertainment.” This one negative review cost the film its perfect score.
