Cillian Murphy kisses wife Yvonne in rare PDA moment after big Oscars win
ok.co.ukCillian Murphy has won the best actor Oscar for Oppenheimer. The Irish actor, 47, played the "father of the atomic bomb" J Robert Oppenheimer in the Christopher Nolan-directed film.
As soon as he was announced as winner of Best Actor in a Leading Role, he kissed his wife before heading to the stage. Cillian told producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas that making the film had "been the wildest, most creatively satisfying journey". "I am a very proud Irishman standing here tonight," he added. "I would like to dedicate this to the peacemakers of the world." Cillian ended his speech in Irish, saying "Go Raibh Maith Agat" which means thank you.
As well as a rare moment of PDA with his wife, Cillian also thanked their two young sons who were watching the ceremony in the audience.
His win came after co-star Robert Downey Jr also picked up an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer. Picking up his award, he announced: "I want to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy in that order." Honouring his wife Susan Downey, he added: "I'd like to thank my veterinarian, I mean my wife, she found me a snarling rescue (pet and) you loved me back to life.That is why I'm here." Both Cillian and Robert were mocked by host Jimmy Kimmel in his opening monologue. "Christopher Nolan is joined by his longtime collaborator Cillian Murphy, who is great," Jimmy shared. "Interesting fact about his name: when he does drama, it's pronounced Cillian.
