A Christian missionary who was trying to convert an uncontacted tribe to his religion was slaughtered during his attempts. John Allen Chau had been trying to make contact with the Sentinelese - an endangered tribe who live on North Sentinel Island, in the Andaman Islands.
The 27-year-old was not deterred by the fact that people are banned from even approaching the island to protect those who live there and their way of life, the Mirror reports.
John, who had grown up in a Christian home in Vancouver, made the dangerous journey in November 2018 and hoped to convert the people who lived there to Christianity.
The keen explorer with a passion for hiking, camping and travelling, regularly told of his experiences online. Following a trip to Mexico in high school he gave a homily where he said Christians "need to know how to defend our faith". "When we go out in our world, there are people that'll just come and oppose us, and they'll have questions, and they'll have questions, and they'll have arguments..." he said. "We can't just, like, go out there unprepared.
