Christian Eriksen has challenged his Manchester United teammates to become more consistent on the back of their ruthless 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

United recorded their widest margin of victory under Erik ten Hag on Tuesday night, easily dispatching the League One side at Old Trafford.

Eriksen, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho all scored twice each and Antony converted a penalty. United were utterly dominant against the third division side and secured their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup, which they won in Ten Hag's first season in charge.

United returned from the break with a comfortable win over Southampton and built further momentum on Tuesday by delivering a stylish performance in front of their home support. "When we finally opened the back, the goals went in and that was a nice feeling, also to give something back to the fans on Tuesday night," said Eriksen with a smile on his face. "The first part of the game, we were struggling a bit, we weren't really finding the right positions and obviously they were going full at it, but when we scored the first one, it opened up. "We were more secure, finding our free spaces and after that we were clinical.
