Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

The day before he made television history, no one working on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire had high hopes Charles Ingram would go much further in the competition.

The Army Major had managed to win just £4,000 and had used up two of his three lifelines. But when he took to the chair opposite host Chris Tarrant, something was different.

Those on set described Charles Ingram's behaviour as "erratic" on his second day on the ITV game show. And on that final question the audience in the studio held their breath as he had to pick a choice to net the huge jackpot - knowing if he failed he would lose £450,000.
