Chow Lee & 2300 on Valentine’s Day songs, perfumes, and “krazy 4 u”

If there’s one rapper I know doesn’t play about Valentine’s Day, it’s Chow Lee, whose heroic libido and agile flows made last summer’s SEX DRIVE one of our favorite albums of 2024.

Naturally, he’s celebrating the holiday with a new 3-song EP, GIRLS CUM FIRST!, a short-and-sweet collection of sexy drill serenades the Long Island rapper recorded on vacation in the Dominican Republic. “Everything was 10 times sexier,” Chow tells me over text.

There’s the heartfelt epistle “yes mami!” (“If I drop the ball with you I might as well be handless”) and the mildly-tortured phone sex chronicles of “lemme get ya #,” where a woman keeps on playing games -- “you gon fumble me.” Still, the highlight has to be “krazy 4 u” with 2300, whose September mixtape Bully put a quiet storm spin on verses about lust and love alike.

The producer-singer dabbles in sexy drill, but his songs overall reminds me more of the moody ambience of early-era Drake, or the narcotized pluggnb of fellow Queens native FLEE.
