The new Chinese film Detective Chinatown 3 just broke the record for the biggest opening day in a single market.

The movie was supposed to be released last year in China, but it was delayed due to the pandemic. The film was just released today (February 12) and audiences clearly were excited for it to finally hit theaters.

Deadline reports that the movie has earned $163 million at the box office in just one day. The previous biggest opening day for a movie was Avengers: Endgame‘s opening on April 26, 2019.

The superhero film earned $157 in North America on opening day. It’s important to note that Avengers: Endgame‘s total included Thursday’s preview showings while Detective Chinatown 3 had no previews, so all of the money was really earned
