A woman who was bludgeoned to death with a tree branch by a homeless man asked him if he was 'going to kill her' minutes before the attack.
Courtney Herron, 25, was battered for almost an hour by schizophrenic Henry Richard Hammond who told a court he saw a "spirit" in the young woman.
The pair met when Hammond, 27, approached Courtney and asked her for a cigarette in Melbourne city centre, Australia. After the pair began talking, they went for a meal at a nearby restaurant before going to an apartment to take drugs.
In the early hour of May 25, they then headed to Royal Park where Hammond picked up a large tree branch. The court heard Ms Herron then asked him "Are you going to kill me?", before he launched his horrific 50-minute attack.
