Child dies after being hit by car on first days of summer holidays from school

A child has died after a collision with a car in the first days of the school summer holidays. The youngster was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the crash just before 1pm on Friday, in Ingleby Barwick, Stockton-on Tees, but has since died.

Emergency service crews had flooded into the road in the Beckfields area of the housing estate, Teesside Live reports. The Great North Air Ambulance also landed at a nearby field at the request of paramedics.

A police cordon was erected at the scene while accident investigations were carried out. A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a child has sadly died following a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a child on Wellbrook Close in Ingleby Barwick at 12.55pm
