Don't miss a thing by getting the day's biggest stories sent direct to your inbox Chetham's School of Music has been ordered to pay £45,000 damages to a former pupil after a High Court judge found it was 'vicariously liable' for the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her violin teacher.
The court found the school 'facilitated' the abuse by violin teacher Wen Zhou Li. The victim, known by the pseudonym 'Abigail', alleged she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Mr Li when she was a teenager in the late 1990s.
Mr Li, who denies the allegations, was previously charged with one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault but prosecutors offered no evidence in 2016.
