Cher has spoken out about the "difficult" moments of her son Chaz's transition in 2009. The 74-year-old singing legend gave a candid interview to CNN as she reflected on the time as 51-year-old Chaz Bono transitioned and how she grew as a parent during that time.
While Cher has been an advocate of the LGBTQIA+ community for many decades, she said that it "wasn't easy" for her at first after Chaz had made his decision.
Speaking to Christine Amanpour, Cher said of her son coming out before his transition: "It was very unlike me to, in the beginning, have a problem with Chaz being gay, and it disappeared like that." Cher continued: "Then we talked about (whether Chaz was) transgender for many years.
