The greatest show on turf is upon us as the Cheltenham Festival sees the top National Hunt horses in action over four sensational days of racing.Willie Mullins trained an amazing 10 winners at last year’s Festival and the master of Closutton will be hoping to achieve a similar feat this term with a predictably power-packed battalion heading from over the Irish Sea.Day One's feature race is The Unibet Champion Hurdle (15:30) and Constitution Hill will bid to become one of the shortest-priced favourites ever to win the contest.
The six-year-old is trained by Nicky Henderson, who is no stranger to success in the race, having saddled the winner on eight previous occasions.Ironically, the Mares Hurdle (16:10) sees two former winners of that hurdling blue riband taking their chances.
Honeysuckle, who won this race in 2020 before taking the last two renewals of the Champion Hurdle is up against Epatante. The pair will have to wrest the crown from reigning champion, Marie’s Rock.Scottish hopes on the opening day will rely upon Lucinda Russell’s Corach Rambler in the Ultima Handicap Chase (14:50).
