Chelsea could miss out on signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen if they keep losing. In-demand Havertz is apparently desperate to play Champions League football next season and may snub a move to Stamford Bridge should Chelsea fail to earn a place in the competition.
The Blues are no longer in control of their fate after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United that meant Leicester and Manchester United could leapfrog them with games in hand.
They may end up relying on fifth place in the Premier League being enough to qualify for Europe’s top club competition if Manchester City can’t overturn their UEFA ban in court this week.
