Chef caught on camera 'trying to kidnap baby' while mum pays for groceries

A chef has been arrested after a surveillance camera showed him allegedly trying to kidnap a baby at a supermarket. A mother was buying groceries at the self-checkout while her baby was in the shopping cart just behind her, police in West Flagstaff, Arizona said.

Cameras filmed a man completing his own purchase at a till next to her before turning around and taking her cart with the child still inside.

As the woman faced the electronic cashier screen, he was filmed allegedly trying to walk away, abducting the infant. The mum soon noticed someone trying to leave with her baby stopped him before it was too late.

The suspect, later identified as 59-year-old Jeffrey Roholt,  was tracked down by police from the debit card he had used to pay
