Charlie Mulgrew has hung up his boots at the age of 37 following his departure from Dundee United and 18-year career.The defender joined the Tannadice side in 2021 but last season, could not help them retain their Premiership status as the were relegated to the Championship.
He has been without a club since his exit was confirmed and was a reported target for Partick Thistle last month. But he has now confirmed via social media he will call it a day.Mulgrew played 44 times for his country and eight clubs in his career with his spell at Celtic the most notable after scooping seven trophies.
In a six-year period, he helped win five consecutive Premiership tiles and clinched two Scottish Cup triumphs, as well as establishing himself as a full international.
He wrote: "Today I’m retiring from playing professional football. It’s not an easy decision as playing football is all I’ve known.
